Bhalka tirth

Located just 4 km from Somnath Temple and 5 km from Somnath Railway Station, Bhalka Tirth, also known as Bhalka Teerth, is a significant temple in Somnath and a must-visit pilgrimage site in Gujarat. Situated on the route to Veraval, it is one of the popular places to visit in Somnath.

Bhalka Teerth Temple is dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna. It is believed that this is the place where Jara, the hunter, mistakenly shot an arrow at the feet of Lord Krishna, leading to the Lord's departure from his earthly existence to his heavenly abode. According to mythology, Lord Krishna was meditating under a Peepal tree here when Jara mistook his foot for that of a deer and shot it with an arrow. Realizing his mistake, the hunter sought forgiveness from the Lord. This incident signifies Krishna's departure from earth and marks the end of the Dwapara Yuga. The term "Bhal" means arrow, giving the pilgrimage site its name, Bhalka Tirth.

This divine event is immortalized by a beautiful temple and an ancient Peepal tree. The temple features ornate sculptures inside and outside, with a serene statue of Krishna playing his flute and a statue of the hunter, Jara, in front of him.

After being wounded by the hunter's arrow, Lord Krishna walked a few kilometers towards Dehotsarg from Bhalka Tirth. He bathed in the Triveni Sangam and then left his body at Dehotsarg.
